-located in the hollow internal structures such as blood vessels
-contract involuntarily (unlike skeletal muscles)
Skeletal Muscle
-move and support the skeleton
-links two bones across a connecting joint
Cardiac Muscle
-forms the bulk of the wall of the heart
-contracts involuntarily pumping blood throughout the body
Bones
-protect the body organs inside

-red and white blood cells are made inside bones
Ligaments
-tough fibrous cords made up of connective tissue
-surround joints and bind them together
-also connect one bone to another
Cartilage
-tough flexible tissue that covers the ends of the bones at the joint
-prevents bones from rubbing against each other
Tendons
-tough flexible band of fibrous tissue
-connects muscle to bone
-transfers force of muscle contraction to bone
